Who we are
Our History
The International Institute for Law and the Environment (IIDMA) is an independent organisation, founded in January 1997 with the aim of contributing to sustainable development and the protection of the environment, through the analysis, implementation and enforcement of the law.
It is the only organisation of its kind in Spain, having been a pioneer in addressing environmental protection through law. It specialises in the fight against climate change, energy transition, governance and sustainability, water resources, biodiversity and oceans.
AREAS OF WORK
Research and proposal development
We analyse and prepare proposals to favour the development and effective implementation of law to promote sustainable development.
Legal advice and representation
Aimed at citizens, organisations, and public and private institutions.
Litigation
We promote litigation when legal and regulatory instruments are not being complied with, in order to prevent or stop environmental damage.
Training
We collaborate with educational institutions in their academic and training programmes.
Our team
IIDMA’s team is made up of highly qualified and experienced specialists. We are united by our passion for our profession and our motivation to protect the planet from environmental aggressions.
How we are financed
We are a non-profit organisation totally independent of any political or economic ideology. We do not accept funding from entities that may restrict our autonomy.
