Areas of work
Research and proposal development
We analyse and prepare proposals to favour the development and effective implementation of law to promote sustainable development.
Legal advice and representation
Advice is provided to citizens and their organisations, public institutions – including international bodies – and private institutions.
IIDMA provides legal support to environmental consultancy, auditing and engineering professionals. It also participates in the drafting of environmental regulations and acts before administrative and judicial bodies in defence of the environment.
Litigation
The International Institute for Law and the Environment pursues litigation to prevent or stop environmental damage when the implementation of the law fails.
Forum for debate
The Institute offers itself as a permanent forum for the exchange of experiences that encourage reflection and generate initiatives in defence of the environment.
Training
IIDMA carries out educational work through the teaching of environmental law in academic and occupational training programmes. It also works to strengthen the capacity of public officials to draft regulations and to participate in environmental negotiations.
In addition, the Institute actively participates in national and international conferences and seminars.
