On Friday 31 May 2024, the International Institute of Law and the Environment (IIDMA), in collaboration with the Commission for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge of the Spanish Parliament, is organising the conference ‘The EU’s 2040 climate target: the role of science and the policy response’.
The event is organised with the aim of facilitating the dialogue between science and policy in shaping the EU’s 2040 climate target. In particular, it aims to explore the roles of the various advisory bodies and expert committees in determining and achieving ambitious climate targets.
To this end, internationally renowned experts will participate, such as the President of the Danish Climate Change Council, Peter Molgaard, the member of the French High Council for Climate Jean-Francoise Soussana, and the Head of Unit in the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Climate Action, Vicky Pollard, among others.
The Director of the Spanish Climate Change Office, Valvanera Ulargui, and the President of the Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge Committee, Cristina Narbona, will also attend. The conference will be moderated by the director of the IIDMA, Ana Barreira, and the senior researcher at the Elcano Royal Institute, Lara Lázaro.
